$ 3,600 scholarships available for Alabama students interested in auto manufacturing jobs

ALABAMA – Interested in working in the Alabama auto industry?

Two organizations are teaming up to offer scholarships and mentors to interested high school and college students.

On Thursday, the Alabama Community College System announced a partnership with the Alabama Automotive Manufacturers Association.

The partnership offers scholarships of $ 3,600 for programs at community colleges across the state associated with careers in automotive manufacturing.

Applicants must have a declared major in an automotive manufacturing program, such as:

  • Automotive manufacturing technology
  • Automotive manufacturing
  • Automotive service technician
  • Computer numerical control
  • Engineering technology
  • Industrial electronics technology
  • Industrial maintenance technology
  • Injection molding; Logistics
  • Machine shop / Tool technology
  • Manufacturing technology
  • Mechanical design technology
  • Mechatronics
  • Welding technology

The above list is not a complete list of programs; AAMA officials will also consider other programs.

Applicants must also:

  • Be a resident of Alabama
  • Be either a high school student or a freshman with an overall GPA of 2.5
  • Submit an application package (available online) including a photo, CV, essay explaining why they want to work in the automotive industry, signed reference letter, and unofficial transcript
  • Be willing to participate with assigned mentor, if applicable
  • Communicate with AAMA and ACCS officials to provide relevant information

Fellows can use the funds for their 2022 spring, summer or fall tuition, books, and fees, and can also apply for the scholarship renewal.

The deadline to apply for the fall award is October 29.
