Auto bodies say they support nation’s fight against Covid-19
Increase the availability of oxygen for medical use: SIAM and ACMA said that many manufacturers have halted production in the units to increase the supply of oxygen for medical purposes.
In the wake of the second wave of the pandemic, the Indian auto industry (the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers and the Association of Automotive Component Manufacturers) said it was working to support the government in the fight against the pandemic.
Increase the availability of oxygen for medical use: SIAM and ACMA said that many manufacturers have halted production in the units to increase the supply of oxygen for medical purposes. “The industry has donated more than 2,030 oxygen cylinders, 4,404 oxygen concentrators and 27 oxygen production plants have been set up in various locations,” they said in a statement. “The industry has teamed up with the manufacturers of PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) plants to increase their oxygen production capacity by a factor of 20.”
Strengthening health and hygiene infrastructure: SIAM and ACMA said some of their members have established permanent hospitals and temporary medical care facilities. “More than 4,475 hospital beds have been added across the country in recent weeks. The industry has also provided more than 35 mobile units and established around 20 Covid-19 relief camps to strengthen healthcare infrastructure. “
Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM said that although the government is leading from the front, “we continue to support them in the best possible way”. Vinnie Mehta, CEO of ACMA, added: “It is heartening that the industry has taken several steps to support and strengthen the medical and healthcare infrastructure by donating medical equipment, concentrators and oxygen cylinders, hospital beds and hospital establishment. and oxygen rescue camps, among other initiatives.
